Will databases be replaced by big data technologies?

You heard that big data technologies is a trend now. Everyone talks about peta bytes and tera bytes. Does every application needs that?

The technology stack is changing very fast and the proven open source technologies reducing the costs. Renting the servers, hosting is still a good option for small to mid size products. But costs can be further reduced hosting on cloud and businesses can sustain while the product is in development also before and after releasing the products/software.

Coming back to data needs open source databases perform well and may be no need of big data technologies for every application. If there is anticipated rapid growth the decision to use big data technologies makes best investment of time and money.
